LONG QUESTION with ANSWER
Q.1. What is communication and describe its process?
Ans. Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place, person or group to another. It is the process of passing information and understanding from one person to another. In simple words, it is a process of transmitting and sharing ideas, opinions, facts, values etc. from one person to another or one organization to another. It is the management of a message for the purpose of creating meaning.
Engineer Claude Shannon says, ‘communication is the transmission and reception of information.’
IA. Richard defines, ‘communication is the generation of meaning. ‘According to political scientist Harald Lasswell, ‘communication process has five component parts: who says, what says, through which channel, to whom, with what effect.’
Communication, the buzzword in today’s world, originates from the Latin word conimunieo or communiare, which means ‘to share’. Various researchers and analysts define the term ‘communication in their own way. Despite their different versions, it can be briefly summed up that ‘communication essentially means the transfer of ideas, feelings, plans, messages or information from one person to another.’
Process of communication :
Communication is a process whereby information is encoded, channeled and sent by a sender to a receiver via a medium. The receiver then decodes the message and gives the sender feedback. In the late 1990s communication researchers came up with a universally accepted model of the process of communication. A basic model of communication describes it as a six-step process that has its source where the sender gets an idea and encodes a message and the message is transmitted through a channel or medium. This message is received and then interpreted. Finally, the message is responded to i.e., appropriate feedback is sent to the sender which completes the process of communication.

Communication is a composite process that gets intensified at a given moment. Coordination between the various components of communication is necessary for communication to be affected. The various components of communication are : (i) sender, (ii) receiver, (iii) encoding, (iv) decoding, (v) channel of communication, (vi) communication mediums, (vii) feedback, (viii) Noise, (ix) filter. Communication is a need to express our feelings and emotions to others in society. Everyone communicates for a specific purpose. The purpose of communication has been categorized under seven basic heads, i.e., to interact, to inform, to enquire or to find out, to influence, to regulate, to record, and to entertain.
Medium of communication (Verbal and non-verbal):
People share ideas, feelings, thoughts, facts, opinions, values, emotions etc. with each other through different mediums. Such mediums may be verbal or non-verbal. Verbal communication is the expression or exchange of information or messages through written or oral words. Nonverbal communication is the expression or exchange of information or messages without using any spoken or written word. Several mediums of communication can be understood with the following diagram.
