Who is eligible for the JNVST?

The JNVST is open to students who have completed Class 5 from a recognized school in the preceding academic year. The age limit for appearing in the exam is 9-13 years as of May 31st of the year of the exam. There are reservations for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and children with disabilities.

What is the exam pattern?

The JNVST is a three-hour computer-based test conducted in two languages: Hindi and English. The test is divided into three sections:

  • Mental Ability Test (MAT): This section assesses the student’s reasoning ability, spatial visualization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Mathematics: This section covers topics from the Class 5 syllabus of Mathematics, including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and mensuration.
  • Science: This section covers topics from the Class 5 syllabus of Science, including physics, chemistry, biology, and environment.

How to prepare for the JNVST?

There are a number of resources available to help students prepare for the JNVST. The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), the governing body of JNV schools, provides sample papers and previous years’ question papers on its website. Students can also enroll in coaching classes or purchase study material from bookstores.
